BRAND DESIGN / LOGO, AESTHETIC, & POSTS / 2026

AZTEC AVIATORS

Starting over from scratch: how I relaunched Aztec Aviators after a year-long hiatus.

MY ROLE

As the Lead Brand Designer, I led the overhaul of the brand, such as: the logo, the color scheme, and the aesthetic of the posts. I also created the Linktree, interest forms, and officer applications.

COLLABORATION

Worked with Rhian Lopez, the Communications Lead, to effectively advertise the club on social media, and to assist in the curation of the logo and colors.

DELIVERABLES

New logo, multiple posts, an interest form and officer application.

01 / Branding

My first step in rebranding Aztec Aviators was to pick out colors. I wanted to have a color palette that incorporated elements related to aviation, while also being modern. Thinking about the color of the sky, I decided to include a sky blue and a dark blue, with the sky blue being the most prominent color. I picked the vibrant and darker reds because they both contrast well with both of the blues, and I believe, as a whole, everything feels more modern.

The rationale behind the typography choices was to make the branding feel as modern as possible, while also being iconic. For example, I chose Special Gothic Expanded One as the header font because of its sleek, yet unique lettering, fitting with my modern and iconic vision.

02 / Logo

After creating the branding, the next step was to create a logo incoporating those colors and fonts.

I wanted to create a clean, versatile logo that could work in a variety of scenarios. After thinking about how to position the text in a logo with an airplane, I thought about using a chem trail to frame the text better. Then, I created a quick sketch and had Rhian, the Communications Lead, turn it into a digital graphic that used the branding colors I decided on. After she sent it to me, I went through multiple iterations (not pictured) of different positions of the plane and text. Eventually, I ended up with the final logo.

03 / Relaunch Posts

I wanted to develop a clear aesthetic following the creation of the branding and logo. Me and the Communications Lead ended up on a scrapbook style that has modern elements.

Relaunch Announcement

This is the first post on the Instagram account after over a year. The image + description both encouraged viewers to fill out an interest form, which had 19 responses, which was a large amount considering our low follower count at the time (~130 followers, many are alumni).

Officer Recruitment

The club did not have an adequate amount of officers, so we put up a post regarding applying to be an officer. 5 people applied to be an officer.
