PRODUCT DESIGN / FIGMA PROTOTYPE / 2026
TRITON TOGETHER
Solving one of UCSD's biggest problems. A mobile app prototype for discovering UCSD clubs and events, created for ACM Summer Projects 2026.

MY ROLE
I designed the onboarding flow, home screen, and the logo.
COLLABORATION
Worked with Deborah Kim, Jeff Wang, and Aniece Wong as a part of ACM Summer Projects 2026 using Figma.
DELIVERABLES
Figma prototype, with lo-fis, mid-fis, and hi-fis, as well as a user survey.
01 / User Research, Pain Points, & Competitive Analysis
With UCSD club and event information scattered across multiple platforms, it's difficult for people to find activities that fit them. We conducted user research with a sample size of 20 UCSD students, asking them questions about the club and event finding process, to better understand how we can create a tool that benefits UCSD students. We also did competitive analysis of platforms that people currently use to find clubs and events.
Discovery of club information is difficult: 12 out of 20 found out about clubs through Instagram, while others find out through other mediums. Furthermore, 89% of students said that finding a club that genuniely fit them was a 3 or higher out of 5 in difficulty. 74% wanted personalized recommendations and 68% wanted a way to filter these clubs and events.

We also did competitive analysis of platforms that people currently use to find clubs and events to see what to improve on. In summary, we looked at four different platforms: Instagram, LinkedIn, the official UCSD club finding website, and Unicircle. Instagram is a social media platform more tailored towards individuals than organizations; important club information is difficult to find with the sequential nature of Instagram posts, as older posts are buried. LinkedIn has good club information, but its more professional nature deters less serious clubs (like social clubs) from being on the platform. UCSD's official club finding website has a comprehensive list of clubs, but it is difficult to know about a club without looking at different platforms. Unicircle is a website created by UCSD students for the purpose of consolidating club information, but fails at keeping the user enticed thorugh its bland color scheme and lack of images.
02 / Brainstorming & Ideation
Based on what we learned from user research and competitive analysis, we thought about how to implement user needs into our app.

Personalize Profile
Since 74% wanted personalized recommendations, I implemented optional questions about major, class standing, and interests. These interests also act as filters in the Discover page.

This page includes recommendations based on the interests chosen. It also shows what your friends are up to, because 6 of 20 students said knowing who else is in a club mattered most before showing up.

Logo
I created three rough drafts of a logo for our app, then asked my group which logo would be the best. Based on what my group members thought, I made a final version.

04 / Key Takeaways
This project forced me to quickly learn Figma in order to create a functional product that aligned with the needs of UCSD students. It required teamwork and coordination to bring this product to life, throughout various phases that required more than just design. If we had more time, I would have conducted usability testing around the lo-fis stage. As of right now, we just have a prototype. However, based on people's reactions at the ACM Projects Showcase, there is a demand for an app like this to actually exist, so maybe we could work on it in the future.
